Mads Nørgaard's store has been standing on Amagertorv since 1944 when his grandfather opened it as “Sørgemagasinet”. His father took it over in 1962, rebranded as Nørgaard paa Strøget, and Mads took it over in 1986.

As well as being the flagship store for his globally recognised brand, Mads Nørgaard's Strøget stores carry independent brands that align with his idea of a "durable wardrobe".

These brands are carefully selected from independent designers  who produce of high quality and durable designs that are manufactured locally and under responsible social and environmental conditions, and are fashionably relevant season after season.
